The Imperial Society Masters of Dancing のメンバーだったAlbert W. Newman が1914年に出版した Dance of to-day という本があります。

A Pictorial Manual of Ballroom Dancing edited by A. H. Franks

Another point to remember is that when one foot was closed to the other, the feet were not parallel as they are in modern ballroom dancing, but turned out, both feet making an angle about ninety degrees. This "turnout" continued to influence social dancing for hundred years, and is of course to be found in the Victorian and Edwardian dances which have been revived with such enthusiasm since the war. Many people believe that the "turnout" of these dances was influenced by ballet, but in fact the converse was the case. Not until the sixteenth century did the ballet begin to develop as an art form.
