Where Did The Tango Originate?
A Timely Question.

According to the "Nacion", the "Intermediaire des Chercheurs" the Tango came from Asia, and did not come from Spain or Argentine. It originated in a Province in Indo China, called Tang-ho in which province it was danced accompanied by most primitive instruments.

Gypsies brought the Tango to Spain and later to Argentine where it was remodelled and made a national dance before it became a dance universal. Society ladies and others are dancing this dance with the enthusiasm characteristic of a new fashion, but the Tango is over 500 years old.

Gypsies danced this dance in olden times on all country roads all over Europe. This old dance has not been forgotten in Argentine. A correspondent of the "Nacion" states that the Tango was danced by Gypsies on Georges day near Buenos Aires in honor of King George of Greece, whose subjects they believed they were. A Spanish- American dictionary takes away all doubt; the word "Tango" is explained to stand for: a meeting, dance of Gypsies.
